UK Driving Theory Test — Android app (package com.pixel.ukdrivingtheory) and website uk-driving-theory-test.web.app · effective 13 October 2026
UK Driving Theory Test (“the app” and “the website”) is published by Abdul Hakeem Mehmood Hussain (“we”, “us”), who is the data controller for the limited data described below. This policy explains what information they handle, why, and the rights you have under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
1. Your study progress
You can use the app and the website without an account. Your study progress — answers, bookmarks, mock-test results, flash-card schedule, streaks, test date, chapter unlock timers and settings — is stored on your device: in the app’s storage on Android, and in your browser’s local storage on the website. Uninstalling the app, clearing the browser’s site data, or using “Reset progress” deletes it. If you use Android backup, the system may include the app’s data in your own Google backup.
1a. Optional: sign in with Google to sync progress
If you choose Sign in with Google in the app or on the website, you sign in through Google Firebase Authentication. We then receive your Google account’s name, email address, profile picture and a Firebase user ID, and we store a copy of your study progress in Google Cloud Firestore so it stays in step between your devices. The synced copy contains: the questions you have answered correctly, your most recent answer to each question and when you gave it, the road signs you have marked as known, and your best mock-test score. It does not include your bookmarks, settings or purchases.
- We use this data only to sync your progress. It is not used for advertising and is not sold or shared.
- Only you can read or change your synced progress; access is restricted to your signed-in account.
- Signing out saves your progress to your account, stops syncing and removes the progress from that device.
- “Reset progress” while signed in also deletes the synced copy.
- You can delete your account at any time from the profile menu in the app or on the website — see Delete your account.
The sign-in system is shared with our separate UAE theory app. If you use both with the same Google account, each app keeps its own progress, and deleting your account here deletes this app’s progress and keeps the sign-in for the other app.
2. Advertising (Google AdMob and Google AdSense) and your consent
The free version shows rewarded video ads from Google AdMob, which you can choose to watch to unlock a chapter for five minutes. When you are in the UK or EEA, the app first shows Google’s consent message so you can accept or refuse personalised advertising; ads are not requested until that choice has been made. You can change your choice at any time from the app menu → Ad privacy choices.
To serve and measure ads, Google may process your device’s advertising ID, IP address, approximate location derived from it, and app-usage information, as described in Google’s advertising policies and the Google Privacy Policy. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android Settings. Buying “Remove ads” stops all ad requests in the app.
The website may in future show ads served by Google AdSense. If it does, Google may use cookies or similar identifiers for the same purposes, a consent message will be shown to UK and EEA visitors first, and you can manage ad personalisation at Google Ad Settings.
3. Analytics and crash reports (Google Firebase)
We use Firebase Analytics (app and website) and Firebase Crashlytics (app) to understand which features are used (for example how many practice sessions or mock tests are completed) and to fix crashes. These services receive pseudonymous usage events, an app-instance identifier, device model, Android or browser version, app version and, for crashes, technical diagnostic information. They do not receive your quiz answers or your name. See Firebase privacy information.
4. Feedback you choose to send
If you use “Send feedback” or answer the occasional feedback prompt, we store what you submit in Google Cloud Firestore: your message, an optional star rating, an optional email address (only if you type one, so we can reply), plus the app version, Android version, device model, language setting and whether “Remove ads” is active. Feedback is used only to improve the app and to reply to you. Feedback is kept for up to 24 months and then deleted; you can ask us to delete it sooner.
5. Ratings and purchases (Google Play)
The app may show Google Play’s in-app review sheet; any rating or review you give goes to Google Play, not to us. The optional one-time “Remove ads” purchase is processed entirely by Google Play — we never see your payment details, only confirmation that the purchase exists.
6. Notifications and permissions
If you switch on the daily study reminder, Android asks for permission to show notifications; reminders are scheduled on your device and you can turn them off in the app menu at any time. The app also uses Internet and network-state access (for ads, analytics, feedback and purchases). It does not request location, camera, microphone, contacts or file access.
7. Lawful bases
| Purpose | Lawful basis (UK GDPR Art. 6) |
|---|---|
| Personalised advertising | Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time |
| Non-personalised ads, analytics and crash reports | Our legitimate interest in funding, running and fixing a free app |
| Sign-in and progress sync | Performance of a contract (providing the sync you asked for) |
| Feedback and replies | Your consent / our legitimate interest in responding to you |
| Remove-ads purchase | Performance of a contract |
8. International transfers
Google, which provides AdMob, Firebase and Google Play, may process data outside the UK. Google relies on the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and/or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to protect such transfers.
9. Your rights
You have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you (you can delete your account and synced progress yourself from the profile menu), to object to or restrict its use, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. Because we hold almost nothing that identifies you, the simplest way to exercise these rights over feedback is to email us. For data processed by Google, use your Google account controls. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
10. Children
The app is designed for learner drivers preparing for the UK car theory test and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
11. Content source
Questions are written from The Highway Code (Crown copyright, Open Government Licence v3.0). The app is an independent study aid and is not affiliated with the DVSA, the DVLA or the Department for Transport.
12. Changes and contact
We may update this policy; the effective date above will change when we do. Questions or requests: ahm.mhd78@gmail.com.
